This grass can produce 6ft. deep roots when sown thinly (equal to 16-25 lbs./acre or 1 oz. per 125 sq. ft.) will scavenge Nitrogen deep in the soil for next years crop, increase soil organic matter and potentially break up hard pans in the soil. The crop dies when temperatures below freezing come or can be plowed up before producing seed.
